It's been 27 years since I attended the Bristol Exhibition in 1980. I was a member of the Association of Model Railway Clubs,
Wales and the West of England at that time and an exhibitor of a model railway. Despite the long period of time a number of
familiar faces appeared over the weekend to chat over old times, the changes in the Association and change of exhibition venue.
A great pleasure to see you all again.
We arrived just after 10.00am on the Friday to set up both the TrainSim stand and the DCC Workshop. Having set the stand up we then had to remove
a couple of the overhead lights in an attempt to reduce the light level over the screens. By 12 noon we were up and runnng and a number of other
members had joined us. A three day show with Friday 2pm to 8pm, Saturday 10am to 7pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm. Hard graft but thoroughly enjoyable.
Over the course of the weekend we were joined by Doug Kightley, LAD491 (Laurie), easilyconfused (John) with ecjunior (Bronwyn), ashgray (Ash), Staxtrax (Clive),
king125 (Terry), Damian2 (Mark). A number of other members dropped by for a chat, including Frank Carver (Toddington)
all the way from Perth, Australia; Ottodad; Fodda and others I probably missed whilst away from the stand.
A good selection of layouts from Association members and from invited guests covering the majority of scales and gauges. It was interesting to see the
high level of detail on some of the layouts. Ferring for example had gone the extra mile with their semaphore signalling and it was a pleasure to
see it all in action. Farkham, almost like a large diorama with trains as an afterthought built into the landscape was very good.
A variety of traders from around the country with everything from LED's to G scale locomotives, books, videos, DVD's, tools, components etc. added
to the quality of this exhibition with some top class deals to be had if you were in the market for items that were on offer.
We would like to thank the Association for the invitation, refreshments and the ever friendly welcome. 2008 sees the 40th Anniversary Exhibition at
the Thornbury Leisure Centre on the 2nd to 4th May. We hope to see you there.
