Exhibition Report

BRM - Harrogate
31 Jan / 1 Feb 2009

Our first and last visit to the BRM Harrogate Exhibition as the venue changes back to the Doncaster Racecourse in 2010 over the weekend of 13 / 14 February 2010. Cab-it and I arrived on the Friday afternoon to do a first stage setup and found ourselves in a good location. The overhead lighting was intended to illuminate the aisles but leave the stands only partially lit, just how we like it.
The venue is two large halls joined by a food hall providing everything from Hot and Cold drinks, sandwiches and hot meals.

The weather forecast was not good for the weekend but despite the cold there were a good number of visitors to the show from various parts of the country. Visitors to our stand came from as far away as Glasgow, Newcastle, London and Crawley, just to place a few. The snow started falling on the Sunday afternoon and the organisers closed the show early at 4.15pm. The drive home was horrendous.

The DCC workshop was left at home again as the BRM have their own DCC arrangements and their lecture theatre area. We were ably assisted over the weekend by Doug (dkightley), Alan Howat, Jennings and Adam from the Bradford Club (See you in April).
With the news just ten days ago of the closure of the Aces Studio at Microsoft, there is renewed interest in the Microsoft Train Simulator and EA Rail Simulator. A good number of freebie CDs were given away and we almost ran out of the EA Rail Simulator Demo disks.

The overall standard of the exhibition was very good. Some first class layouts, quality trade stands, varied demonstrations and some specialists all added together to make a worthwhile exhibition.

Our thanks to Sam Porter, Gretta Ryan and the Organising Team for the invitation, the refreshments and the location. Our thanks to all those that gave of their time to help us demonstrating, to those who dropped by for a chat and to the members of the public who visited the exhibition over the weekend.
This show returns to its original venue in 2010, the Doncaster Racecourse over the weekend 13/14 February 2010.
