Our final visit to St Felix Middle School, Newmarket for the European Model Railway Society Exhibition. Phil Colton, the exhibition manager, retires
this year and therefore the school will not be available in future years. A bright and early start for a number of people resulted in the crew arriving
between 7.30am and 8.00am.
Although it never rained, it did spitter, spatter a few times during the day and attendance was therefore good. A number of people had travelled some distance
to the show, including one gent from Enfield who was seeking advice on DCC programming.
As usual with this show, UKTrainSimLive organised and ran the raffle for the organisers. We took a number of prizes with us including a RailDriver console from Contact Sales, thanks. A special thank you to Phil Coultons wife for making the splendid cake for the raffle. Numerous other prizes were also gathered from trade stands and societies at the show (Thanks to the traders and society stands).
Overall we finished up with 25 raffle prizes, most of which were collected on the day and the remainder posted out. I would like to say a special thank you
to Doug Kightley who unstintingly went round the exhibition SEVERAL times selling tickets. At the close of play, the raffle had made £140 which was handed to the organisers and will be part of the final payment to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
We were ably assisted during the weekend by dkightley (Doug), LAD491 (Laurie), easilyconfused (John) and Micronic. Numerous UKTS members also visited
the stand during the day to chat all things train and rail sim plus a large number of the visiting public dropped in for a chat and some for a brief drive.
The DCC Workshop attracted a number of interested visitors, young and old, proving that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks.
As this is the European MRS Exhibition, the majority of the layouts are European based. The layouts were excellent with a variety of gauges and scales to
suit all modellers. Numerous traders selling their European wares and demonstrators showing how it could be done. Model building, loco and wagon building.
John brought along some of his N gauge collection, British and American outline. Doug brought along his Thomas Kincade trains again, this time with another coach, so that's a loco and TWO coaches now. Looks really good. One of the niceties of the DCC Workshop track, as we have 9mm and 16.5mm we can run a variety
of scales on the tracks.
The photographs on this page and the larger ones they link to are much smaller than the full size originals which are 3072 x 2304
and around 1.2Mb each. If you would like a full size copy then please email our support desk support@uktrainsim.com.
Our thanks to Phil Colton and the European Model Railway Society for the invitation, the refreshments and the location. Best Wishes Phil on your retirement.
Our thanks to all those that gave of their time to help us demonstrating, to those who dropped by for a chat
and to the members of the public who visited the exhibition over the weekend.
I will post the final sum sent to Multiple Sclerosis here as soon as I receive the figures.
15th July 2008 - I am pleased to report that the grand total of £1600 has been sent to Multiple Sclerosis as a result of the exhibition. Well done to all.
