Exhibition Report

Peterborough
17th / 18th October 2009

For the second year running "The National Festival of Railway Modelling" in the "EXEC Peterborough" on the site of the East of England Showground. This is a large and impressive exhibition / show building with plenty of space for an exhibition of this type.
We arrived at the venue Friday afternoon, shortly followed by Laurie, Terry and Patty. Our location, as last year, on the back wall between two fire exits was superb. Peter38, one of the marshalls, joined us for a chat before returning to his marshalling duties. A slightly deeper stand this year meant we could put the screens on the tables at the back and an extra table at the end for visitors. After stand setup we tootled back to the hotel for a well earned meal.

Bright, cool and early Saturday morning saw us back at the venue by 8am to complete the setting up. The exhibition organisers have their own DCC arrangements so our DCC Workshop was left at home. As always it didn't stop visitors asking us about DCC though.

We were joined over the weekend by LAD491, king125, queen125, atomicdanny, peter38 and MichaelHendle plus others I didn't note down. There were numerous UKTS members visited the stand over the weekend to chat all things trainsim, railsim and railworks plus a large number of the visiting public dropped in for a chat and some for a brief drive.

With the huge space available, the layouts were first class in most gauges and scales. Plenty of traders selling everything from tiny LEDs to DVDs, to Gauge O kit locos and almost everything in between. There was also competitions for adults and children to enjoy themselves. Again, most notable at this show, like the Ally Pally show is the amount of aisle space for visitors. You never get the closed in, cramped, claustrophobic feeling, even when there are a large number of visitors in the hall.

If you didn't make it to the show, you missed out on an excellent show.

Our thanks to British Railway Modelling Magazine Exhibition organisers (Maxine, Gretta and Sam) for the invitation, the refreshments and the location. Our thanks to all those that gave of their time to help us demonstrating, to those who dropped by for a chat and to the members of the public who visited the exhibition over the weekend.
