Exhibition Report

Redditch MRC
Birmingham Exhibition
15th - 16th September 2007

We arrived bright and early on the saturday morning to find the exhibition hall already a hive of activity with layouts being erected, stands being stocked ready for the 10 o'clock opening. With our 20 foot frontage and numerous helpers we quickly set to setting the two stands up and checking things out. By 9 o'clock we were running which provided an opportunity to browse around the layouts and stands before the public arrive.

By doors open there was a goodly queue formed up outside and numbers attending over the weekend were up on last year according to the organisers. There certainly seemed to be a good number of people at the show, dwindling towards the end of each day. Last minute hangers-on hoping for a good deal before pack up time.

Our DCC Workshop was kept busy over the two days answering questions on various aspects of DCC and it's use. We assisted one layout operator to reprogram a loco decoder and another layout operator to reset a decoder that appeared to have gone awry and then to reprogram it as required.

As this was the first exhibition of the autumn season and the imminent arrival of Kuju Rail Simulator there were numerous UKTS members to help out at the show. Not in any particular order, but we were ably assisted over the weekend by Doug Kightley, RobertM, LAD491, king125, damian2 (with mate John), staxtrax, easilyconfused (with OOEC, Bronwyn) Alan Howat, eddieF, partyspiritz, 250787, steamnut44 and dinmore. If you were there and I missed you, sorry! Numerous UKTS members also visited the stand over the weekend to stop and chat about all things sim and to pick up a freebie CD.

A good balance between layouts and traders (around 50/50) which in this day and age is unusual as the number of traders is traditionally higher. The quality of the layouts was also very high. Layouts ranged from 2mm through to 7mm with a large variety in sizes and complexity. Sutton Folly was again hijacked by Bronwyn on the Sunday for several hours.

An excellent local exhibition with something for everyone, regardless of scale or gauge or size.
Our thanks to Redditch MRC for the invitation, location and refreshments.
Our thanks to all those that gave of their time to help us demonstrating, to those who dropped by for a chat and to the members of the public who visited the exhibition over the weekend.
