Exhibition Report

Birmingham
18th / 19th September 2010

Redditch MRC Exhibition moved to a new venue this year, Trinity High School in Redditch itself. A typical 1930's school with a myriad of corridors and rooms.
Arriving Friday afternoon to set up we were bemused by the set out of the hall we were in. Once we had identified the position and size of our stand we had to set up the Sim facing one aisle and the DCC Workshop facing the other aisle. In reality the hall was not wide enough for the way it had been laid out with traders each side and a double sided island in the middle. It left barely 1.6m either side of the island for walkway. A rather crowded situation and frustrating for visitors. The stage in our room had 4 layouts on it and was totally inaccessible to disabled visitors.

Alan Howat was already at the hotel when we returned friday evening and easilyconfused arrived mid evening. Final setup on saturday morning was accomplished and we were up and running. Not long after setup was completed the power to the hall went off and after half an hour word came back that the caretaker was on holiday that weekend. John and I found the breaker board and reset the tripped breaker and all appeared well. Sadly, the whole hall was on one breaker and it tripped out 6 or 7 times during the saturday morning. We were joined over the weekend by Alan Howat, Easilyconfused (John), Danny Leach, King125 (Terry) and Queen125 (Patty), RobertM, Dinmore and Staxtrax (Clive).

A number of UKTS members visited the stand over the weekend and there was a steady flow of visitors to the show who stopped by for a chat. The DCC Workshop was in full flow over the weekend, answering some of the usual questions and demonstrating the capabilities of DCC.

Our thanks to the Redditch Model Railway Club for the invitation, refreshments and location. Our thanks to all the UKTS crew that gave of their time to help us demonstrating, to the UKTS members who dropped by for a chat and to the members of the public who visited the exhibition over the weekend.
