Exhibition Report

Royston
17th November 2007

A leisurely drive down on the saturday morning and with clear roads we arrived around 7.30, shortly followed by LAD491. Once the doors were open around 7.45 we quickly unloaded and set up our small stand with just 2 laptops, projectors and screens. The remainder of the kit and people were at the Flight and TrainSim Convention in Birmingham.

As with most school based exhibitions, good use had been made of the hall, gymnasium and numerous classrooms. As per last year we were based in Classroom 3, this time with a 4mm underground layout. As with most one day exhibitions a lot of thought and effort goes into the choice of layouts and traders to make the exhibition a success. A good selection of layouts in various gauges including the much extended Hampton End in G gauge. This used to be an 'L' shaped layout but has now grown to a complete oval and fully digital.

During the course of the day we had many visitors including Gary (billywindsock) who helped us out by driving for a few hours (Thanks Gary). One unfortunate couple who had purchased MSTS but could not get it to install. We spent half an hour going through the install on a laptop with them so they saw the various screens during the install. Another unfortunate couple who could not get RailSim to install beyond the security code entry screen. Incorrect code gave an error screen, correct code froze the PC. EEK!!

Our thanks to Tony Noad (Exhibition Manager) and to the Royston & District MRC for the invitation, the refreshments and making us welcome. Thanks to Laurie and to Gary who joined us to help demonstrate and talk to the visitors; to UKTS members who visited us for a chat. Hope to see you all again in 2008.
