Exhibition Report

Watford (SW Herts)
10th May 2008

Our first visit to the South West Herts MRC exhibition in the Queens School, Bushey in Hertfordshire. Arriving at 7.25 Saturday morning to be told that two of our crew were already there and waiting for us to arrive. When we reached the room we were to use, both Laurie (LAD491) and Danny (atomicdanny) were there ready and waiting. After his prolonged absence from the circuit because of ill health, it was really great to see Laurie there back in action. Welcome back to the crew Laurie and for the continued improvement in your health.

Doors opened to the public some time after 10.00am and we were joined by LAD491, easilyconfused, neutronic + micronic and atomicdanny. Numerous UKTS members (was photons66 one of them?) visited the stand over the weekend to chat all things train and rail sim plus a large number of the visiting public stopped by for a chat and a free CD, others for a brief drive. The DCC Workshop was in attendance with a couple of updates on the hardware front to show some of the extended capabilities of the new ESU Switch Pilot decoders. Underground Ernie was there again also.

As time moves on and DCC gets a bigger penetration in to the market place, the myths and legends of what DCC is and isn't capable of get more numerous and ever more fundamentally flawed. If you are considering DCC, don't be put off by the nay sayers and the myth creators. We do not proclaim to be the experts, but having worked with and used DCC for nearly 10 years, we do have a good understanding of where it is at. Equally we do not sell any products so have no axe to grind for any given manufacturer and there is NO BEST system, it is only the BEST system for you that meets your requirements.

Despite being spread around the school in various halls and rooms, it was an excellent exhibition overall, very good layouts in a variety of scales and gauges, good mix of trade stands, booksellers and dvd / video vendors etc. It was also good to meet up with some layout operators / traders we only meet with occasionally..

Our thanks to Mike Roualle and the SW Herts MRC for the invitation, refreshments and warm welcome. Our thanks to all those that gave of their time to help us demonstrating, to those who dropped by for a chat and to the members of the public who visited the exhibition over the weekend.
Thanks as always to the crew for helping out and the packing up and loading at the end of the exhibition. We hope to see you all again next year on the 9th May 2009.
